Steins;Gate is a science fiction anime series that centers around a group of friends who discover and develop a device that allows them to send messages back in time. The main character, Rintaro Okabe, is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who runs a small lab out of his apartment. Along with his friends, Mayuri and Itaru, Rintaro accidentally discovers that the device, which they had originally built as a joke, can actually send messages back in time.
As they continue to experiment with the device, Rintaro and his friends uncover a sinister organization known as SERN, which has been experimenting with time travel for years. In an attempt to stop SERN from using their technology to change the past and control the future, Rintaro and his friends must navigate a complex web of lies and manipulation.
As they delve deeper into the world of time travel, Rintaro and his friends begin to experience strange and unexpected side effects, including memory loss and time loops. They also begin to realize that their actions in the past can have dire consequences in the future.
As the story progresses, Rintaro becomes increasingly determined to stop SERN and save his friends from the dangers of time travel. Along the way, he also begins to develop feelings for his childhood friend, Kurisu Makise, a brilliant scientist who helps Rintaro and his friends understand the complexities of time travel.
The story reaches its climax as Rintaro and his friends must make a series of difficult choices that will determine the fate of the world. In the end, Rintaro must make the ultimate sacrifice in order to set things right and save his friends.
